Seasonal Climate Outlook Bulletins

Brief Introduction:

The Seasonal Climate Outlook Bulletin provides an overview of climate conditions likely to occur over the coming months or season. It uses recent and historical rainfall with sea surface temperature (SST) information, current climate conditions, major climate drivers such as ENSO, and climate forecast models to determine whether rainfall conditions are more likely to be below-normal, near-normal, or above-normal.

In the Solomon Islands context, it can also incorporate observed rainfall, rainfall outlooks, ENSO, and other climate drivers to provide a clearer understanding of the potential for drier- or wetter-than-normal conditions and to support early preparedness and decision-making.

Purpose:

The main purpose is to provide early climate information to support planning, preparedness, risk management and informed decision-making. It helps climate-sensitive sectors such as agriculture, water resources, health, food security, disaster management and fisheries anticipate potential climate risks and take appropriate early actions.
