WHAT IS A STRONG WIND WARNING?

Strong Wind Advisories are issued when wind speeds of 20 to 25 knots are expected to affect any part of the Solomon Islands within the next 24 - 48 hours. 
These are intended for coastal waters only and for mariners and small crafts.
 

Description of Wind Speed

 " Strong wind warning: 26 to 33 knots.
*  Gale warning: 34 to 47 knots.
*  Storm force wind warning: 48 to 63 knots.
*  Hurricane force wind warning: 64 knots or more.

Descriptions of Wind Direction.

" Wind direction is given in 8 compass points for forecasts and 16 for observations and is the direction the wind is coming from.

A Swell Advisory is issued for the Solomon Islands waters when swells are greater than 2.5m with potential to pose a threat to
any coast and low lying Islands and are expected within 24 to 48 hours.
