A SWELL ADVISORY NUMBER FOUR IS ISSUED BY THE SOLOMON ISLANDS METEOROLOGICAL SERVICE AT 8:00AM THIS MORNING ON THE 16TH FEBRUARY 2016.

A MODERATE SWELL ADVISORY IS INFORCE FOR LOW LYING ISLANDS OF ONTONG JAVA, DAI, RAMOS, SIKAIANA AND NORTHERN CHOISEUL, ISABEL, MALAITA, MAKIRA AND TEMOTU.

EXPECT MODERATE NORTHERLY SWELLS (2.5 TO 3.5 METRES) COMING FROM NORTHERN PARTS OF SOLOMON ISLANDS WATERS IN THE NEXT 12 HOURS.

THERE IS A POSSIBILLITY OF COASTAL INUNDATION OVER LOW LYING ISLANDS AND ATOLLS. BE AWARE THAT THESE ESTIMATES OF SWELL HEIGHTS DO NOT TAKE INTO ACCOUNT THE ENHANCING EFFECTS OF THE LOCAL SEA CURRENT & TIDES.

MARINERS AND PEOPLE LIVING ON LOW LYING ISLANDS AND COASTS ESPECIALLY ONTONG JAVA ATOLLS, DAI, RAMOS, AND SIKAIANA SHOULD TAKE PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES AS THESE SWELLS CAN POSE THREATS TO LIVES AND PROPERTIES.
